Anonymous asked: please can you tell me about your sorority? i'm from england and i don't know much about it, but i kind of got a negative impression of sororities from the reality show 'sorority girls'. it seemed to me like they were uncompromising and hotbeds of internalised sexism, but you seem really passionate about yours so i'm hoping not all are the same. just curious, sorry if this sounds insulting! i don't mean to offend <3
i watched that show and it was heinous! i’m in phi sigma sigma, a sorority that is in the national panhellenic conference along with 25 other sororities. my chapter, theta tau, was founded at my college in 1996. greek life is not very big on my campus but there is another NPC sorority there as well: alpha sigma tau. our chapter currently has 25 members, which is our regulated maximum for our school size. we do philanthropic work for the national kidney foundation as well as locally, the ronald mcdonald house. a bunch of my sisters are involved with habitat for humanity and tend to help out with that as much as with the sorority itself. we host socials to meet potential girls monthly and we also have mixers with fraternities on campus. the one i am most looking forward to is a special mixer we’re having along with tau kappa epsilon and it will be prom dress bowling. our sisters have weekly sister dinners and generally hang out with each other a lot. a sorority does not alienate you from friends you had previously, but just opens up a new world of people you might not have met without it. joining a sorority was one of the best things i have ever done and i do not know where i would be without 24 other women behind me. :)

i really hope i get a little this coming semester. i think i would make an incredible big and i have so many craft ideas for their basket. you know when you find that one girl that you absolutely adore but don’t tell anyone you love her because you don’t want to chance them taking your number one choice? ugh.
